Mushrooms in onion and cream sauce

An appetizer o side dish that can be easily adapted to a gluten free diet. Just substitute flour with cornstarch.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons butter
2 cups mushroom (sliced)
1 onion (medium sized, finely chopped)
1 tablespoon flour (plain)
  nutmeg (freshly grated)
1 cup milk
  seasoning (to taste)
  parsley (finely chopped, garnishing)
  seasoning (salt and ground pepper to taste)

Instructions

  1. Heat butter in a pan until melted, add onion, then, and cook for 5 minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for a further minute, stirring.
  2. Add flour and cook for 1-2 minutes before pouring in milk, gradually and stirring all the time, season with, pepper, and nutmeg to your taste, cook over a low heat for 5-8 minutes.
  3. Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with chopped parsley leaves and serve.

Notes

Using cornstarch, or other suitable non gluten starch such as arrowroot, to thicken the sauce would make this recipe gluten free.
