The South

Food and wine in the South of the United States of America have distinctive flavors.

Cream gravy

This is a white sauce made with pan drippings. It is also a variation of the basic gravy recipe for poultry using a mixture of water and cream instead of stock.

Succotash

What there is not to love in this vegetable dish of corn and shelled, fresh lima beans? It is made even more delicious by the addition of Vidalia onion, sweet peppers, and olive oil.

Healthier southern sweet potato pie

With cooler weather and Thanksgiving around the corner, ‘tis the season for making pies. It is also the season for sweet potatoes which we enjoy in many different forms; baked, mashed, and as fries or chips. A nutritional superhero, sweet potatoes are one of the best vegetables you can eat. The starchy, tuberous root vegetable is loaded with carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.
