Sweet bar-b-q sauce

A delicious Southern style sauce to go with barbecued chicken.

Ingredients

3 cups water
3 cups tomato ketchup (tomato ketchup)
1 3⁄4 cups brown sugar
2 1⁄2 tablespoons garlic (minced)
1 lemon (small, sliced)
6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons salt (kosher salt)
1 1⁄2 teaspoons cumin (ground)
1 1⁄2 teaspoons onion (powder or flakes)
1 1⁄2 teaspoons chili pepper (powder)
1 1⁄2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
3 tablespoons liquid smoke

Instructions

  1. Place all above ingredients in a medium pot and whisk together.
  2. Simmer on medium heat for 35 to 40 minutes or until it reduces down to about 1 cup and thickens.

Notes

Remove lemon slices when done cooking and reserve. Serve these lemon slices on top of chicken; they look nice and taste great.
