Gooseberry ketchup
Gooseberry ketchup goes well with hotdogs and hamburgers.
Ingredients
5 pounds brown sugar
8 pints vinegar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon clove
3 nutmeg (grated, 3 hole nutmegs)
1 tablespoon allspice
10 pounds gooseberry
Instructions
- In a large heavy bottom pan, boil the vinegar, half of the sugar and berries until the berries are very soft.
- Run through a food mill, reserving the liquid.
- Mix the liquid with the remainder of the sugar and the rest of the ingredients.
- Return to heat and simmer until desired thickness.
